Hey everyone!
I’m excited to finally share that I’ve added a brand-new handmade item to the shop — wind chimes! This has been something I’ve wanted to do for a while, and after a lot of brainstorming (and time spent with a drill and woodburning tool), they’re here!
Each wind chime is made with care and love. The centerpiece is a round slice of basswood, about 3–4 inches wide, with a sunflower wood burned on both sides. I hand-drilled each hole, strung them with sturdy nylon string, and added beautiful natural bamboo sticks. These are actually the kind used for mason bee houses and pollinator gardens, so there's a bit of nature's purpose in every one. The entire piece is coated in urethane for a smooth, lasting finish.
What I love most about them is their sound, or lack of it until nature really kicks in. They don’t make constant noise like metal chimes. Instead, they wait for those strong breezes or sudden gusts to come to life. It’s subtle, peaceful, and almost like the wind has to “earn” its music.
Now, I know it’s been a little quiet on the shop front lately. That’s because life has been a whirlwind in the best and busiest way. Since March, I’ve been working as a Park Ranger, a job that has honestly been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. Being outdoors, helping people, and just soaking in the park every day has helped me grow in ways I never expected.
On top of that, I’m also back in school in my 2nd semester. I’m juggling homework, fieldwork, reading assignments, and still trying to carve out time to be creative and run my small shop. It’s a balancing act, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
So, when I do get a chance to sit down and create something with my hands, it means even more now. These wind chimes are a little piece of that time. Each one carries some quiet moments between shifts, late-night focus sessions, and a lot of thought about how I want to blend my love of nature with the things I make.
Thank you for supporting my journey, whether you’re buying a handmade piece or just reading this post. Every little bit of encouragement helps me keep going, and I hope these wind chimes bring a touch of calm, joy, and nature into your space, just like they have for me while making them.
More to come soon (if life lets me catch my breath)!
So go check out my shop! It's under Home and Office.
